Cartagena

    Founded in 1533 by Pedro de Heredia, Cartagena de Indias is full of history. This city is located on the north coast of Colombia on the shores of the Caribbean Sea. It is the second most important urban center in the Colombian Caribbean Region and has the fifth largest population in the country.

    During colonial times, Cartagena de Indias was one of the most desirable ports for commerce. Today, it is visited by tourists from all over the world who come to see its artistic and cultural patrimony. On November 11th of the year 1811, Cartagena became independent from Spain. This event is now celebrated in Colombia for the four days known as “The independence Holidays”.

    In Cartagena, one can enjoy wonderful sandy beaches and warm waters the whole year round. The sea food is exquisite, especially the regional cuisine of the Colombian coast. In addition, there is a huge variety of bars, cafes and discotheques spectacular city squares, colonial buildings, theaters, museums, the colonial walled city with its romantic environment, and many other wonderful places. All of this comes together to give visitors an unforgettable experiences.
